Day 19

The following is a description of the 25 Days Service Project on February 19th, a partnership between NAACP and Georgetown Scholarship Program:

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 28 students from the Washington Jesuit Academy came to Georgetown from 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM, and were hosted by 14 students involved in either NAACP or GSP. We split up the WJA students, approximately two per Georgetown student, and the students went on tours of Georgetown's campus, attended classes with their hosts, spoke with representatives from CMEA and other on-campus resources, and ate lunch with their hosts. Then, at 12:30 PM, the WJA students and their hosts all met back up at the library to hear Roy Hibbert speak. Then, at 1:00 PM, Missy Foy from the admissions office (and head of GSP) gave a talk to the kids about the college admissions process and took questions. All in all, the students got a greater understand of life on a college campus, what classes are like, what majors are available to them, and what resources exist to help them as they prepare to pursue a path towards higher education. The hosts formed strong person bonds with their students, and the result was a very enriching and fun-filled day.
