February 18th, Groove Theory and PRIDE collaborated to address LGBTQ issues within the hip hop community. We brought a group of students from the ASK program onto Georgetown campus and after teaching them a hip hop routine, PRIDE led two separate group discussions on the definition of hip hop, the definition of homophobia, homophobic references within hip hop lyrics, positive strides seen in hip hop music and dance regarding homosexuality, etc. It was a great learning experience for not only the ASK Program students, but also the Groove Theory and Pride participants.
