25 Days of Service began with a bang at their Opening Ceremonies in McShain Lounge on Monday, February 2nd! The ceremony, featuring speakers Dr. Porterfield and Yamiche Alcindor, kicked off the month of service with a mixture of solemn reflection and jubilant celebration. Dr. Porterfield illuminated the goal of 25 Days, announcing that of all initiatives on campus, 25 Days of Service best represented the Jesuit ideals.
After this motivating speech, Yamich Alcindor read Elizabeth Alexander's Poem "Praise Songu for the Day." Both these speeches celebrated the mission of 25 Days of Service. Afterwards the celebration of the initiative commenced, as attendees broke into a sponatneous dance party and laughs were shared all around! It was a wonderful way to begin the month, and we hope that the enthusiasm will continue throughout!

The Steering Committee would like to thank Amy Hang, Estela Hernandez, Thuy Tran, Arlee Vang, Jackie Ovalle, Jessica Serna, Edgar Corona, Emilio Mendez, Jarvis Matthews, Joaquin Recinos Walsh, and Laurie Tapia for their help in organizing and setting up Opening Ceremonies! We are also grateful to the financial aid of Diversity Action Council, Interhall, Dr. Porterfield, Leaders in Education About Diversity and the Corp, and the advising and support of the Patrick Healy Fellows and the Baker Scholars! Thanks for a great first event and we hope to see everyone at Closing Ceremonies on February 26th!
