On Saturday October 17, The CMEA Peer Mentors and the Vietnamese Student Alliance worked with the Myers Institute for College Preparation's high school students. The group discussed the transition from high school to college, apprehensions about coursework, and goals. It was a great morning and both the Peer Mentors and VSA look forward to working with the MICP kids again!

On February 23rd, for their 25 Days project, IRC and SOCA chose to visit Bright Beginnings, a local charity that helps teach children of the homeless or if their families are currently in transition homes. We had the opportunity of interacting with children from as young as 2 years old to about 4 or 5 years old. They were all very happy to see us. It was a truly valuable experience, where we not only helped the children, but also learned more about each other.
On February 22nd, members from the student organizations THUGS, GUSA, and BSA met at Village C Alumni Lounge to make thank you cards for veterans, both retired and those injured on the line of duty. Because of an increase interest in the project, the three clubs agreed on having this event ongoing through the week and plan on delivering the cards to a veterans hospital this weekend. While participating in the event, club members from these 3 organizations used the time to discuss and learn more about the goals and objectives about their respective clubs. We discussed the importance of having distinct organizations work together to put on an event for 25 Days that not just effectively demonstrates the Georgetown ideal of "men and women for others", but also reflects an individual's commitment to the community off-campus. Thanks to this event, these clubs also look foward to working with each other once again in the future to co-sponsor similar events on and off-campus.

On February 6th, the Baker Scholars and the GU NAACP baked cookies and wrote cards to the workers at the Georgetown University Hospital. Together, they had a great time working together and getting to know one another. More importantly, they were able to show our thanks to the many workers at the hospital who sometimes go unnoticed. The janitors, receptionists, and volunteers at the hospital are integral in making sure our hospital is one of the best. They had a great time and are truly thankful for those running our hospital.

On February 9th, KSA and HSA decided to make Valentine's day cards for the children of the Oncology wing of Georgetown Hospital. They decided to attach little pieces of chocolate to them and co-opted their respective board members to bake brownies, cookies, and grab-n-go's. Then, they took turns going out in the the halls and grabbed individuals they knew outside of our organization and worked with them to help put the cards together or attach the chocolates. Altogether, they had a great time interacting and participating in this activity together.
On February 18th, Groove Theory and PRIDE collaborated to address LGBTQ issues within the hip hop community. We brought a group of students from the ASK program onto Georgetown campus and after teaching them a hip hop routine, PRIDE led two separate group discussions on the definition of hip hop, the definition of homophobia, homophobic references within hip hop lyrics, positive strides seen in hip hop music and dance regarding homosexuality, etc. It was a great learning experience for not only the ASK Program students, but also the Groove Theory and Pride participants.
On February 13th, GU Brothers for Christ and InterHall collaborated to participate in Georgetown's 25 Days of Service Project. We made sandwiches that we donated to the DC Central Kitchen--a community outreach center that helps to fight hunger, poverty, and homelessness. About fifteen of us made about 150 sandwiches on the Kennedy 2nd Floor Common Room and we had a great time doing it. We thought this was a great way to contribute to the greater DC commnuity by supporting a very valuable resource to the poor and homeless of Washington DC, and GU Brothers for Christ and InterHall both hope to further be involved with initiatives that wil benefit people beyond ourselves.
On February 14th, the Sophomore Class Committee and the 25 Days of Service Steering Committee joined efforts to make it a lovely Valentine's Day for some Bethesda residents. We spent two hours making sugar and chocolate chip cookies and dancing to some great music. There was enough icing and frosting to go around, as we decorated the cookies with hearts, Georgetown symbols, and colorful swirls. The cookies were beautiful and tasty. They were delivered to the Feed the Hungry Program in Bethesda, MD. All in all it was a fun and worthwhile collaboration!
